Ingredients at ClimbCare

At ClimbCare, we believe skincare should be simple, effective, and made with ingredients you can actually recognise.

That’s why every balm we make is built around natural oils, butters, waxes, and carefully selected active ingredients — without filling products with unnecessary water, silicones, or synthetic fillers.

Most creams and lotions are made primarily from water. Our balms are different.

By removing water from our formulas, we create concentrated products designed to:

  • Stay on the skin longer
  • Provide deeper nourishment
  • Help protect against dryness and cracking
  • Support skin recovery after climbing, training, work, and outdoor adventures

Below is a breakdown of the ingredients we currently use across the ClimbCare range and why we use them.

Core Ingredients

Grass-Fed Tallow

One of our favourite ingredients for damaged skin recovery.

Tallow is naturally rich in skin-compatible fatty acids and vitamins that closely resemble the oils found in healthy human skin. We use high-quality grass-fed tallow to help:

  • Deeply nourish dry skin
  • Support the skin barrier
  • Reduce moisture loss
  • Soften rough or cracked areas

Tallow creates a rich, protective balm without relying on synthetic ingredients.

Shea Butter

A staple ingredient throughout many ClimbCare products.

Shea butter is packed with naturally occurring fatty acids and vitamins that help soften, condition, and protect the skin. It’s especially useful for:

  • Dry hands
  • Cracked skin
  • Rough heels
  • Weather-exposed skin

It also gives our balms their smooth, buttery feel.

Mango Butter

Used in some vegan formulas for a lighter, smoother texture.

Mango butter helps moisturise the skin while feeling less heavy than some traditional butters. It contributes to:

  • Softness
  • Skin conditioning
  • Smooth application
  • Fast absorption

Beeswax

Beeswax helps give our balms their structure while creating a breathable protective layer over the skin.

We use it to:

  • Lock in moisture
  • Protect damaged skin
  • Improve balm longevity
  • Create a smooth, durable texture

Unlike petroleum-based occlusives, beeswax allows the skin to breathe while still offering protection.

Candelilla Wax

Our vegan alternative to beeswax.

Candelilla wax helps firm vegan balms while maintaining a smooth glide on the skin. It creates a protective barrier and helps improve product stability.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax and is incredibly compatible with the skin.

It absorbs well without leaving an overly greasy finish and helps:

  • Support the skin barrier
  • Condition dry skin
  • Improve glide and texture
  • Reduce moisture loss

Hemp Seed Oil

A lightweight oil rich in essential fatty acids.

Hemp seed oil is valued for helping support dry, stressed, overworked skin and is commonly used to:

  • Nourish the skin
  • Improve softness
  • Support skin recovery
  • Reduce tight, dry feelings after climbing

Castor Oil

Castor oil is a thick, glossy oil commonly used in lip care and skin conditioning products.

We use it to:

  • Improve glide
  • Add lasting moisture
  • Help soften dry skin and lips
  • Create a smooth protective finish

It’s especially useful in products designed for dry, cracked lips.

Calendula-Infused Oil

Calendula has been traditionally used for generations in skincare products designed to calm and comfort irritated skin.

We use calendula-infused oil to help:

  • Soothe dry or stressed skin
  • Support skin recovery
  • Condition rough areas
  • Add gentle nourishment

Tamanu Oil

Tamanu oil is a rich botanical oil traditionally used in skincare for dry and stressed skin.

We include it in selected balms to help:

  • Nourish damaged skin
  • Support skin conditioning
  • Improve richness and glide
  • Provide extra protection for overworked skin

Neem Oil

Neem oil is commonly used in foot care and skin products thanks to its purifying properties.

Its strong natural profile makes it particularly suited to products designed for sweaty feet and tough skin areas.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (CCT)

A lightweight ingredient derived from coconut oil.

We use CCT to:

  • Improve skin feel
  • Reduce greasiness
  • Help products glide smoothly
  • Improve texture and spreadability

It helps balms feel lighter and smoother on the skin.

Powder & Odour-Control Ingredients

Arrowroot Powder

Arrowroot helps improve the feel of our balms by reducing excess greasiness and creating a smoother finish on the skin.

It also helps absorb moisture in products designed for active lifestyles.

Tapioca Starch

Tapioca starch is another natural powder used to improve texture and skin feel.

It helps:

  • Reduce heavy or greasy feeling
  • Improve smoothness
  • Absorb moisture
  • Create a softer finish

Magnesium Hydroxide

Used in our deodorant formulations.

Magnesium hydroxide helps neutralise odour-causing bacteria without blocking sweat glands like traditional antiperspirants.

Triethyl Citrate

A gentle deodorising ingredient used to help reduce body odour formation.

It works by helping limit the breakdown of sweat that causes unwanted smells, making it ideal for natural deodorant products.

Essential Oils & Natural Aromatics

Lavender Essential Oil

Used throughout much of the ClimbCare range for its calming aroma and skin-friendly profile.

Lavender oil is often included in skincare products designed to:

  • Soothe dry skin
  • Support skin conditioning
  • Provide a calming scent

Frankincense Essential Oil

Known for its warm, resinous aroma, frankincense is widely used in premium skincare and wellness products.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

A prized essential oil often used in skincare products designed for stressed or damaged skin.

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Commonly used in foot care and cleansing products because of its fresh, purifying profile.

Lemongrass Essential Oil

Adds a fresh citrus aroma and is frequently used in foot and body care products.

Oregano Essential Oil

A powerful botanical oil used sparingly in selected formulations.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Sweet orange essential oil provides a fresh, uplifting citrus scent and is commonly used in natural body care products.

Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot has a fresh citrus aroma with subtle floral notes.

It’s often used to create clean, balanced scent profiles in natural skincare and deodorant products.

Cedarwood Atlas Essential Oil

Cedarwood Atlas brings a warm, woody aroma that helps create a more grounded, unisex scent profile.

It pairs particularly well with citrus oils in deodorant and recovery products.

Vanilla Aroma

Used in our lip balm for a smooth, warm vanilla scent and flavour profile.

It helps create a comforting, subtle sweetness without overpowering the product.

Antioxidants & Product Stability

Rosemary CO₂ Extract

Used as a natural antioxidant to help protect oils and butters from oxidation.

This helps maintain product freshness and supports shelf stability naturally.

Why We Avoid Water-Based Formulas

Many conventional creams and lotions list water as the first ingredient.

At ClimbCare, we focus on concentrated balm formulas instead.

Why?

Because water-heavy products often:

  • Evaporate quickly
  • Require stronger preservatives
  • Deliver less concentrated nourishment
  • Need repeated application

Our water-free balms are designed to stay where you need them — helping support dry, damaged, overworked skin for longer.

Real Ingredients. Real Results.

Every ingredient in a ClimbCare balm is chosen with purpose.

Whether you're climbing, training, working outdoors, or simply dealing with dry, stressed skin, our goal is simple:

Create effective natural skincare that actually performs.
